In December, we introduced the CMOS Cosmic Ray Detector project – a simple idea with deep implications: turning every laptop into a self-triggered muon detector.
Today, we’re delivering on that promise.
Together with the team at Centrum Astronomiczne im. Mikołaja Kopernika PAN (NCAC PAS), we developed a working prototype of a laptop-based cosmic-ray detector.
We’re now releasing muoCAM v0.1 – the first Muotech-branded version.
muoCAM is a cross-platform desktop application that streams directly from a standard webcam, performs real-time sensor calibration, and applies eigenvalue-based pattern recognition to distinguish cosmic-ray tracks from thermal noise. Entirely on-device. No data leaves the user’s machine.
Why does this matter?
Because every laptop already contains a CMOS sensor. With muoCAM, that sensor becomes part of a distributed network of personal particle detectors – a foundation for scalable, global muography.
